Tummy Time ~ June 12, 2009

The boys are both trying to get some tummy time in each day to strengthen their neck muscles. Ryan is definitely the stronger of the two at the moment. He is always moving!
Matthew was too hungry in this picture to think about trying to lift his head, although he is also getting better at lifting it on his own.

I am also trying to start cloth diapering the boys, especially during the day when I am fully awake. So far it has been going OK. Matthew has a diaper rash (from disposables) that I am trying to treat as well... and so far it has been slowly getting better. These diapers are nothing like the cloth diapers from long ago. With Velcro closures, and a microfiber insert, they are extremely easy to use and super absorbent. Plus they come in some pretty cute colors. I can usually get through about 2-3 half days of diapering before I have to wash the diapers. Not too bad! The only draw back is the bulkiness of the diapers. With them on, it's a little more challenging to find clothes that will fit right.

Fredbird's littlest fans ~ June 5, 2009

Today was Washington University's employee appreciation day, and I took the boys to see some of my old coworkers, and get some Ted Drewe's ice cream. While we were there, we saw that Fredbird (the St. Louis Cardinal's mascot) was posing for pictures. So I had to go and get pictures of the boys with Fredbird. Too bad they were sleeping and will never remember meeting him.

The boys are officially one month old today, how time flies! Some of the things I have learned in the past month are the following:

~ Never put off a nap... if they are sleeping well, sleep with them!

~ Even though the boys can sleep through the dog barking, the bag of cookies will inevitably wake them

~ A diaper stays clean for approximately two minutes

~ The boys like to try and get mommy wet when she is not awake at 2 AM

~ Babies draw a lot of attention, twins draw even more

~ Enjoy every moment!

Out and About ~ May 30, 2009

So far things are going well with the boys. Sleep deprivation is catching up to us though. But hopefully the boys will soon sleep longer stretches and we can both try and catch more sleep at night. Usually we end up with one that sleeps great and one that is cranky...

We have been able to get out a little with the boys. I have attempted to go to the store with them by myself and have been pretty successful. It's quite a production though to get them both packed up to run and get some milk. But it is nice to get out of the house and know I can manage it (so far) on my own. Both boys really like their shoulder strap protectors, they come in handy when they lose their pacifiers.

I also just added a "Current Measurements" box to the right on the blog. I will try and weigh the boys a few times a week and keep that updated as much as possible. As of right now, they are both two pounds over their birth weight, and are continuing to grow and change fast!

We're almost a month old already! Can you believe it?!

I *love* Fisher Price ~ May 26, 2009

We recently discovered that the boys love the vibration option on the Fisher Price rocking chair that my sister-in-law bought us for Christmas. The chair was such a big hit, my mom and I went out and bought a second chair (a bouncy chair) to have both twins in at the same time. They sure have been nice to have during the night shifts, especially since the rocker has a "kickstand" that can convert it into a makeshift bed.

These few minutes that the boys decide to nap at the same time are extremely cherished by us, since we can try and catch a few minutes of rest ourselves.

I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day!

Dad's Team ~ May 21, 2009

First of all, Ryan seems to be doing better. No more fever, and the diapers are looking better... and he still has a healthy appetite!

Mom tried another photoshoot today... which went better than the first, but we still could not do without our binkies.

We're hoping for the next big Cardinal's pitcher and catcher team. Give us a few years and we'll be famous!

Just a quick post... today we had our second trip to the pediatrician's office. Ryan was running a low grade fever and had some nasty diapers, so the doctor wanted to see both boys right away. He thinks Ryan has rotavirus, which can be pretty serious, but Ryan isn't doing too bad, and his fever was down that evening. But the poor little guy was having a rough day. Hopefully soon he will be better, and his brother does not catch this!!
